The 4th Northwest Ohio Teen Book Festival will be held Saturday, March 15, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Rossford Junior/Senior High School. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. with a scavenger hunt for book prizes.
The free event will feature artistic workshops, panel discussions, reading discussions, writing workshops, author discussions, and interactive activities.
A sampling of breakout session topics includes:
        • “Creating Characters” with cartoonist Scoot McMahon, who will discuss creating characters and story ideas.
        • “Writing Graphic Novels,” featuring two panelists who will explore the relationship between words and images and how to bring them to life.
        • “Writing About Authentic Love,” where panelists will discuss writing romance believably.
        • “Interactive Writing with Natalie D. Richards,” where attendees will learn how to build the walls of a novel and receive tips on publishing aspects.
        • “How to Create a Suspense Novel,” where panelists will explore how to write action sequences, jump-scares, and cliffhangers.
Additionally, teens will be able to play board games with the authors and help Alice escape from Wonderland. Throughout the day, books will be sold at the festival bookstore. Authors will sign their books beginning at 2:30pm.
The mission of the Northwest Ohio Teen Book Festival is to encourage a love of literature in Northwest Ohio teens and keep them reading by introducing them to authors and engaging them with thoughtful and fun discussions.
“This year, we have raised enough money to transport up to 50 teenagers from southern Ohio,” said Denise Phillips, book festival committee member. “Such support comes through generous donations by local businesses and individuals. We greatly appreciate all the hard work everyone, especially the donors, has put into making this festival possible.”
Learn about the festival and see the author list at nwoteenbookfest.com. Admission is free. Register on Eventbrite. Schools can also register student groups. More info at nwoteenbookfest.com/getting-here/.
