MemoryLane Care Services opens second location in BG
MemoryLane Care Services, which provides an adult day program and caregiver support services in Toledo, has opened a second Adult Day Center in Bowling Green, serving families in Wood County and surrounding counties who are caring for an older adult experiencing memory loss, Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia as well as frail older adults.
The center is located adjacent to the Wood County Senior Center, 140 N. Grove St.
“We’ve been working closely with the Wood County Committee on Aging to understand the need for an adult day program in Wood County and to work to make an affordable, accessible option a reality,” said Salli Bollin, president and CEO of MemoryLane Care Services.
Caring for a family member with dementia or other forms of memory loss can be challenging, both physically and emotionally. “Often, family members want to keep their loved one at home but may struggle to balance caregiving with working outside the home and raising a family,” said Izzy Alaniz, RN, Director of the Adult Day Services Center in Bowling Green.
The adult day program provides structured, person-centered, and therapeutic activities. In addition to games, arts and crafts, and musical entertainment, participants receive vital socialization they may not receive during the day at home. Operating as a health model, a nurse is on-site to provide care, monitor health conditions and administer medications. Services are designed to meet the needs of participants and support their strengths, abilities and independence.
“Many people benefit and enjoy participating in our Adult Day Center including individuals experiencing memory loss, individuals with dementia and older adults needing support, social interaction and care,” Alaniz said.
In addition to its adult day program, MemoryLane Care Services provides care coaching and counseling services to anyone caring for a family member or friend and offers free caregiver education programs.
The Ohio Department of Aging, the Wood County Committee on Aging and the Area Office of Aging of Northwestern Ohio, Inc. provided funding to support opening the Adult Day Center in Bowling Green.
