Mary Rose Valasek, 100, of Elmore, passed away April 18, 2022 just four days from her 101st birthday. She was born April 22, 1921 in Genoa, to the late Peter and Anna (Wyse) Pokorny. On September 13, 1941 she married Jerry E. Valasek who preceded her in death August 9, 1993. Mary retired from Atlas Industries in Gibsonburg, OH where she worked for 20 years. A lifetime member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Genoa, she had a strong faith.

In retirement Mary enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s athletic events. She also enjoyed watching tennis, baseball and all sporting events, especially following the Cleveland Indians, Ohio State, and Toledo Rockets. Her greatest pastime was playing bingo, which she did three or four times a week. Mary used her impeccable needlework to make quilts for many family members, even at 100 years old. She was very proud of her Czech heritage, baking and sharing special pastries for every holiday and family events. In early retirement she enjoyed traveling, most notably to Europe.

Mary is survived by her children: Gerald (Theresa) Valasek of Toledo, Jean Ann (Ronald) Blausey of Elmore, James (Linda) Valasek of Elmore, and Jay (Denise) Valasek of Perrysburg: grandchildren: Laura Valasek, Ronald (Stephanie) Blausey, John (Diana) Blausey, Amy (Bill) Heaps, Eric (Tricia) Valasek, and Molly (Ian) Davis; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 12 siblings; one of which was a twin sister, and grandson Daniel Valasek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11am on Friday, April 22, 2022 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Genoa with Rev. Timothy Ferris, Celebrant. Visitation will be Thursday, April 21, 2022 from 4-8pm at the Crosser & Priesman Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Elmore-Genoa Chapel. Burial will be in Clay Township Cemetery.
