Madeline Clare Zahradnik

Madeline Clare Zahradnik, age 74, of Northwood, Ohio passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Gardens of St Francis. She was born on April 21, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio to Dr. James and Betty (Bairley) Pollex. Lyn was a 1967 graduate of McAuley High School and went on to obtain her nursing degree becoming an RN and later earning her BSN from Mercy College of Detroit. She worked for 35 years at St. Charles Hospital in Step-Down I.C.U and was the charge nurse for the majority of those years. Over the years, she taught EKG classes, was a Critical Care Class Coordinator and Clinical Instructor for Owens Community College. She was the recipient of several awards, including: Physician Choice Award, Excellence in Leadership Award and was a Metro Board of Trustees Award winner. She was an avid gardener, loved to do woodworking with her father’s old tools and adding her artistic flourish to painting and sewing projects. Lyn was a multi-tasker; baking dozens of cookies, working a full shift, building a deck and chauffeuring/babysitting grandkids; all in one day with a huge smile. Most of all Lyn loved spending time with her family, especially the grandkids. Lyn was a mentor, role-model, helper and giver to many.

Lyn is survived by her husband, Jim Zahradnik of 55 years; children, Julia (Jon Nissen) Zahradnik, Pandora (Charles) Bohnsack, and Jeffery (Sara) Zahradnik; grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas, Tyler, Sam, Zoi, Jonathan and Zariah; siblings, Christine McGrellis-Lenz, Kathleen (Ted) Cupp, Karen Ralston, Drew Bairley, John Pollex, Jill (Larry) Baer, Kimberly (Craig) Gabel, and Kurt (Jennifer) Pollex; sister-in-laws, Linda Pollex and Laurie (Bob) Gorzelski; stepmother, Donna Myers Pollex (Pete) Najarian, many nieces and nephews and great friends, Paula Brehmer and Sue Jaros. She was preceded in death by her father Dr. James Pollex, mother Betty Pollex and brother James Pollex.

A memorial gathering will be held at Freck Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 1, 2023 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. where a memorial service will follow at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Toledo Zoo.
