Lourdes esports team competing in league

The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference has added esports as a championship sport for the 2021-22 season.

The addition of esports brings the total number of championship sports sponsored by the conference to 27. Currently, seven member schools are set to compete starting this fall: Aquinas, Cleary, Concordia (Mich.), Indiana Tech, Lawrence Tech, Lourdes, and Siena Heights.

“Esports has been growing with our conference members over the last few years, so taking the step to add a conference championship was a natural progression,” WHAC Commissioner Rob Miller said. “We are excited to provide this opportunity to the many teams and individuals involved and look forward to the conference competition it will bring to our members.”

The first season will feature competition in three games — League of Legends, Rocket League®, and Overwatch — and is the third coed sport in the league joining competitive cheer and competitive dance. The WHAC is now one of three NAIA conferences sponsoring esports, joining the Mid-South Conference (MSC) and the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
