Apple Festival
support appreciated
To the editor: The 43rd Annual Oak Harbor Apple Festival was held Oct. 8-9. What a wonderful weekend filled with food, family, fun, and entertainment.
When we say that the festival and all of the great activities would not be possible without the help of everyone, we truly mean this. From the sponsors, the local businesses, the village departments and the property owners to the volunteers and vendors, it really takes everyone working together to make our festival the success that it is.
The Oak Harbor Area Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the following for their contribution to this year’s festival:

Wrong message
To the editor: A local television station has been airing a commercial that features a pom-pom shaking minor girl, for the weekly Ohio Lottery Cash Explosion television show.
I'm not OK with this. How can a minor child be the focus of a gambling show? Any gambling addiction website will tell you how vulnerable children are to the disease. Someone is putting profits ahead of good common sense.
Gambling addiction has the highest suicide rate among all addictions. Meanwhile overall suicide rates are reportedly on the rise. Someone out there is rolling dice on the future of our kids’ lives.
