Lake Twp.: Trash hauler ending service next month

The Lake Township trustees are informing residents of an end to curb-side refuse collection and recycling service with the current hauler, Republic Services, on Jan. 31, 2023.
In a press release dated Dec. 16, the trustees say the current contract with Republic Services expires Dec. 31 but the hauler will pick up subscribers’ trash and recyclable materials until the end of January 2023.
Residents will receive a pro-rated bill.
“Republic Services has told us that they will be withdrawing from providing services in the unincorporated areas of Lake Township effective January 31, 2023,” the release says.
A list of service providers in the area has been posted on the township website, www.laketwp.com, and the trustees have contacted the Wood County Solid Waste District to explore options for local recycling.
The trustees didn’t receive any bids in October when they advertised for service proposals. They received one proposal in November but it lacked several specifications in the current service agreement.
“The current services have been long standing in our past proposals and contracts,” the release says.
Richard Welling, a trustee, said last week the trustees will discuss options for service during their regular meeting Dec. 20 at the township administration building.
