Personnel changes for the Lake Township Police Department were announced Tuesday at the regular meeting of the township trustees.
Police chief Mark Hummer said Robert Roe, a retired 31-year veteran of the Sylvania Police Division and a School Resource Officer at Sylvania Southview High School, was hired as SRO for Lake schools.
A resident of Lake Township, Roe will replace Steve Poiry, who retired from the Lake Township department as its SRO last month.
Chief Hummer said Roe served on the Toledo Metro Drug Task Force and was an instructor for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy.
No officer from within the Lake Township department expressed interest in the SRO position, the chief said.
He also announced a former township officer, Brian Linscott, will be rehired on a part-time basis.
Linscott had been with the department for 25 years before retiring in 2013. He will begin his new duties Oct. 14.
In other business, the trustees approved the purchase of a new life squad vehicle at a cost of $179,678. The 2019 Braum Chief XL Ford is being purchased from Penn Care, Inc., Niles, O., and will replace a 2006 vehicle, fire chief Bruce Moritz said.
The trustees also approved the purchase of a power cot loading system and stair chair for the new squad for $39,994 from Ferno Inc., Wilmington, O.
