Junior Athletes: sign up for Rifle Camp

Ashley Brugnone

Are you a junior marksman looking to move your shooting career into college? Add sophisticated knowledge and hands-on training to your journey by signing up for the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) 2019 National Matches Junior Camp.
Open to junior athletes who shoot both three-position smallbore and standing or international precision air rifle, the camp will be held at Petrarca Range and the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center air range, both located on the grounds of Camp Perry in Ohio, July 17 through July 22. The evolving camp specializes in training intermediate and advanced athletes who are striving to improve their shooting skills towards future participation in collegiate programs.
Participants must be between the ages of 12 to 20 and must currently be shooting in three-position smallbore competition matches and international air rifle. Students who have not reached their 18th birthday by July 17, 2019, must be accompanied by an adult (age 21 or older).
A staff of certified coaches, safety officers and support staff are dedicated to providing a safe and outstanding learning opportunity to junior participants. Camp begins with a basic safety review, a reinforced understanding of the fundamentals, along with teaching the smallbore prone, standing & kneeling positions.
Also included within the camp will be a 50- and 100-yard prone "Dewar Match" on Petrarca Range, as well as a 60 Shot International Air Rifle event within the air gun range, using state-of-the-art electronic targets.
Cost of camp is $275 after May 1. Campers must provide their three-position smallbore target rifle (equipment and ammunition), though the CMP has sporter air rifles available for use in the air range. Class is limited to 71 students, so sign up now.
Questions about camp can be addressed by a phone call to Head Coach Russ Evans, 330-534-5344, or through e-mail: nmcampheadcoach@gmail.com.
Camp signup information is available on the CMP website at http://thecmp.org/competitions/cmp-national-matches/cmpnmjrcamp/.
The Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center is a marksmanship sporting facility that includes an open reception and common area, fully equipped classrooms, cylinder filling room and CMP retail store. Large projection screens and flat-screen television sets throughout the building, as well as authentic Olympic memorabilia and other remarkable items from the career of decorated American marksman, Gary Anderson, can also be found within the building. An 80-point airgun range is attached to the main area and includes KTS electronic targets, available for purchase from the CMP.
Petrarca Range is located next to the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center. The range contains CMP Targets, powered by KTS, which work through the power of acoustics – “hearing” the shot and accurately determining its location. The CMP is proud to share these targets that are certain to be known as the way of the future.
The Civilian Marksmanship Program is a federally chartered 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation. It is dedicated to firearm safety and marksmanship training and to the promotion of marksmanship competition for citizens of the United States.
