GPA: Sandusky County Positive People Summer Concert of the Year

        Sandusky County Positive People (SCPP) will hold their 7th Annual “Summer Concert of the Year” fundraiser Friday, July 16, at a new location, the outdoor quad at Terra State Community College, 2830 Napoleon Rd., Fremont.
        The fundraiser will promote Positive People’s efforts to raise money for scholarships for graduating seniors who have overcome major obstacles in their lives and have come through those challenges with a positive attitude. All proceeds from the concert will go toward scholarships.
        Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. Two acts will be featured this year, starting with Ron Howard & Cruisin’ performing from 6-8 p.m., followed by The Together Band playing from 8:30-11:30 p.m.
        Advance tickets will be available for the discounted price of $15. Tickets purchased at the gate will be $20.

        The event is open to ages 21 and older. No outside food or drink will be allowed. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
        Since its inception in 2012, Sandusky County Positive People has been provided 88 scholarships to Sandusky County youth totaling $217,650. The organization is a 501(c)3 that relies solely on donations and fundraising for funding.

Benefit golf outing
        The 2021 Eastwood Open benefiting the Eastwood Athletic Boosters will be held Friday, July 23 at Belmont Country Club in Perrysburg.
        Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. The four-person scramble will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
        The cost is $100 per player. Longest drive, closest-to-the-pin and hole-in-one contests will be held.

Eastwood all-class
celebration planned
        A celebration of educational excellence at Eastwood throughout the years will be held Saturday, Sept. 4 at Eastwood High School. Alumni from Pemberville, Troy-Luckey and Webster Schools are invited to attend the event, which will include:
        • 4:30 p.m. – Doors open;
        • 5 p.m. – Welcome and school history;
        • 6 p.m. – Grazing stations and mingling;
        • 8 p.m. – Comments, 50/50 and raffle prize drawings;
        The cost is $25 per person.

        Alumni Band to perform
        Eastwood Band alumni are invited to perform with the marching band at the football game Friday, Sept. 3. Social time will begin at 5:15 p.m. Rehearsal will begin at 6 p.m.
        All former Eastwood Band members are invited to perform. Those who are not able to play or march are welcome to come socialize. A limited number of instruments will be available on a first-come, first served basis. Alumni are asked to wear Eastwood or red clothing.

Terra Board extends
president’s contract

        At their May meeting, the Terra State Board of Trustees, with a unanimous vote, extended President Ronald Schumacher’s contract through 2024.
        “He is leading Terra State on to bigger and better things…we can’t wait to see what’s next,” said Chairperson Kay Reiter.
        “I want to thank the board of trustees for their unanimous support and belief in my leadership,” Schumacher said. “We have assembled an incredible leadership team that works nonstop to bring Terra State back to prominence. I also want to thank all of our faculty, staff and students for all they do to continually bring about positive change for the programs at the college that they represent.
        “We will continue to move the college forward as a team, focusing on infrastructure and continued growth of academic programs through new equipment purchases as well as increasing academic rigor within all of our academic programs. I look forward to the continued challenge we have in front of us to strengthen Terra State and the greater Fremont area, as well as Sandusky, Seneca and Ottawa counties,” he said.
    
B-C-S retirees honored
        At their May 25 meeting, the Benton-Carroll-Salem Schools Board of Education honored three 2021 retirees for their service to the district.
        Sally Stone and Becky Weidner retired as bus drivers, and Dr. Susan Hany retired from teaching. The three of them combined,  contributed 72 years of service to Benton-Carroll-Salem Schools over their tenure.
        B-C-S Superintendent Dr. Guy Parmigian thanked each of the retirees for their service, and wished them well in their retirement.
