Get ready for takeoff! “Above and Beyond” launches Feb. 2 at Imagination Station
Strap on your best spacesuit and prepare your pilot’s badge because the interactive aerospace exhibition, “Above and Beyond” launches at Feb. 2 at Imagination Station.
The science center’s newest temporary exhibit explores transformative inventions in space and aviation, from the first powered flights to the newest innovations on Earth and in space.
Once they enter the exhibit, visitors can explore five different galleries full of interactive, hands-on experiences They can test their own supersonic fighter jet design in a virtual competition, learn what it would be like if humans could fly and take a ride on the space elevator.
Combined with Imagination Station’s new solar eclipse programming, “Above and Beyond” aims to help give the community a more detailed understanding of outer space and the eclipse experience the region will experience on April 8.
“The total solar eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we want our community both excited and educated about what’s happening,” said Sloan Eberly Mann, chief education officer at Imagination Station. “Our Solar Eclipse programming, including workshops and science festivals, aligns with ‘Above and Beyond’ and ensures that everyone can enjoy the total solar eclipse and the science behind it on April 8.”
“Above and Beyond” also promotes STEM-based learning and inspires young people to pursue careers in aerospace and creates the opportunity to discover the immense impact global aerospace innovations have had on the world. “The ‘Above and Beyond’ exhibition provides future engineers, pilots or astronauts with an interactive glimpse into how they can achieve their dreams and inspires them to pursue careers in science and technology,” said Todd Citron, Ph.D., chief technology officer and vice president and general manager of Boeing Research & Technology.
Presented by Toledo Jet and Boeing, the exhibit is produced by Evergreen Exhibitions in association with Boeing, in collaboration with NASA and the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum.
Admission is free for members and $5 for non-members. “Above and Beyond” will be open through Sunday, April 28.
