Evelyn Mae Hanneman
Evelyn Mae Hanneman, 94, of Elmore, OH passed away early Saturday, April 29, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 14, 1928 in Bono, OH. On June 19, 1948 in Toledo, OH she married Morton Edward Hanneman, and he preceded her in death on July 8, 1985.
Evelyn worked as a homemaker, an interior decorator for a number of years, and she was also an avid gardener at her home. She took great pride in the family homestead, The Hanneman Farm in Elmore, OH, which was land granted by President Andrew Jackson and subsequently stayed in the family and became a Bicentennial Farm. The family through the years have donated some land for the Woodmore High School and for The Habitat for Humanity for a home and some property for senior housing. Evelyn was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Elmore for many years, and prior to that a member of the Elmore Christian Church, where she served as bookkeeper and secretary. She was active in the Democrat Party circles over the years and she enjoyed helping fundraise for church and other groups. Evelyn was an artist as well, working with watercolors, and she donated much of her artwork to others and to charities for fundraising efforts. She also enjoyed volunteering at St. Charles Mercy Hospital for over 25 years and she gave credit towards her joy of volunteering there for her longevity in life.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Marc (Kathy) Hanneman, Debra (Charles) Whidman, and Susan (Buck) Stoiber, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Memorial services for Evelyn will be conducted by Pastor Margaret Mills at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2023 at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 448 Rice St., Elmore, OH with a luncheon to follow the services at the church. Private burial will take place in Harris-Elmore Union Cemetery, Elmore, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Evelyn may be given to Ohio Living Hospice, Harris-Elmore Public Library, or St. John’s United Church of Christ, Elmore, OH.
