The Elmore Kiwanis Club is conducting a shoe drive to raise funds to help support membership initiatives as well as funding special projects to help the community.
Kiwanis will earn funds based on the total weight of the shoes collected as Funds2Orgs will then purchase all of the donated footwear. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes (of any kind) to collection drop boxes at any of the following locations:
        • Harris-Elmore Public Library, 328 Toledo St., Elmore.
        • St. John’s UCC, 448 Rice St. Elmore.
        • Christy’s Corner Café,(368 Rice St., Elmore.
        • Portage Inn, 355 Rice St., Elmore.
        • Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 19225 Witty Rd., Elmore.
        • Woodmore High School, 633 Fremont St., Elmore.
        • Woodmore Elementary/Middle School, 800 W. Main St., Woodville.
        • Millers New Market, 22361 W. Holt Harrigan Rd., Genoa.
        • Genoa Branch Library, 602 West St., Genoa.
         • Oak Harbor Public Library, 147 W. Main St., Oak Harbor.
There will also be a drive-thru event on Saturday, March 29, from 12-3 p.m. at St. John’s UCC, 448 Rice St., Elmore. Donors may put shoes in their trunk or vehicle back seats, drive through the location and volunteers will retrieve the shoes.
All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothes and house their families.
By donating gently worn, used, and new shoes to the Elmore Kiwanis Club, the shoes will be given a second chance to make a difference in people’s lives. Donors will also be supporting waste sustainability efforts by reducing waste in landfills.
The Elmore Kiwanis Shoe Collection Drive will run from now through April 4.
