Elmore: Fill’er up with electrons

In their first weeks of being in operation, electric vehicle charging stations in the Village of Elmore have drawn users from the Ohio Turnpike and other routes.
The two units went into service in late June, Dave Hower, village administrator, said.
“People are trying them out,” he said. “We’ve had several users, including visitors coming off the turnpike. We’ve been trying to track users. It’s a nice benefit for visitors to the village who come to patronize the restaurants and stores and other businesses.”
The stations are located adjacent to Walter Ory Park off Rice Street.
Hower said the village has partnered with ChargePoint on the charging stations. To date, users haven’t had to pay for charging their vehicles but a fee will be put in place beginning Aug. 1.
Those with electric vehicles can use the ChargePoint app to set up a credit card account with the company.
Hower said the village is charging the company for electricity used by the stations.
The village paid for installation of the stations with a $12,000 grant from the Volkswagen Mitigation Grant program and $5,000 from its own revenues.
According to the ChargePoint website:
-More than 4 billion electric miles have been driven on the ChargePoint network
-More than 123 million charges delivered
-Drivers have avoided more than 160 million gallons of gas
-Drivers plug into the ChargePoint network every second
-More than 700,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions avoided

Annexation
An ordinance authorizing the annexation of three properties along W. Portage River South Road received its third reading Monday by village council and was unanimously approved.
The village intends to extend sanitary sewer lines to the area where septic systems are now in use, Hower said.
In other business, council heard the second reading of an ordinance that would repeal a section of the village code covering dumping of appliances and other bulk items at River Bend Park. The village will continue to hold bulk collections at the park but drop-off dates will be restricted to coincide with the collections
