Members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church Northwood held a dedication ceremony Tuesday for a community services center that was recently completed.
The 3,600-square-foot addition is being used for the church’s outreach efforts, including free bread and clothing distributions, a food pantry, free blood pressure checks and others.
Ed Reimer, a member of the church, said the church, since 2016, has been receiving bread weekly from Panera Bread’s Day-End Dough-Nation program and distributing it to the needy. Bread that isn’t picked up at the church is delivered to local charities, including the Cherry Street Mission and the T. Whitehead Recovery Center for their meal programs.
Vivian Grant was recognized during the dedication for implementing the bread distribution at the church.
Reimer said the church’s clothing drives have also grown.
“We were completely out of space before we built the center,’’ he said. “ And we’re hoping to grow the food pantry.”
The church also hosts monthly community dinners.
The addition more than doubles the footprint of the church facility, Reimer said.
The church is located at 2975 Eastpointe Drive. Prior to moving to its current location in the early 1990s, the congregation met in buildings in East Toledo.
The schedules of the food and clothing drives are listed on the church website: northwoodadventist.org.
