Celebrate Summer on the Farm at Sauder Village

Celebrate Summer on the Farm at Sauder Village

Sauder Village invites area families to enjoy as they visit historic homes, barns, gardens, and craft shops as Ohio’s largest living history destination celebrates Summer on the Farm on Saturday, July 11.
“While this event will be a bit different this year without the Fiddle Contest and some traditional hands-on activities, families can still enjoy a fun day on the farm at Sauder Village,” said Kim Krieger, Sauder Village media relations.
Highlights of the day will include:
        • Meet baby animals and watch a goat-milking demonstration in the barnyard areas.
        • Make marshmallow shooters and aim at targets at the 1920s Livery.
        • Use a “Bug Finder Guide” while exploring the Sauder Village grounds.
        • Discover the evolution of canning, learn about making buttermilk pie, and take a peek in the Grime family’s deluxe picnic basket while visiting the historic homes.
        • Watch engaging science experiments at the Nature Center.
        • Enjoy free train rides on the Erie Express Train.
As visitors “Walk Through Time,” they’ll explore wigwams and a trading post at “Natives & Newcomers,” and continue to the “Pioneer Settlement” area to experience life in Ohio from 1834-1908 at the log school, church, barn, homes and gardens. Finally, guests can step into the 1920s as they explore the Grime Homestead and the new Main Street – a one-of-a-kind project which replicates a portion of a 1920s Main Street typical to Northwest Ohio.
Main Street highlights include the Farmers and Merchants Bank, Schuck Jewelry Store, Stotzer Hardware, Ohio Farm Bureau Office and the Livery, which bring the “Roaring Twenties” to life through personal stories, authentic reproduction buildings and historic artifacts.
Sauder Village is located at 22611 SR 2 in Archbold. The Historic Village is open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Closed on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays this season. Admission is $20 for adults, $14 for students (6-16) and free for members and children 5 and under.
Info on current safety practices and special events, and answers to frequently asked questions are available online at www.saudervillage.org or on the village’s social media pages.
