Plan a visit to Sauder Village Saturday, Oct. 12 to try your hand at a variety of fun, fall farm experiences from making butter and rolling out pie dough to building a scarecrow, decorating pumpkins or exploring a straw maze.
The third in the Farm Days series, Fall on the Farm offers families a unique opportunity to enjoy stories, try hands-on activities and watch unique demonstrations.
At the Witmer Roth Home, children have the chance to taste a few vegetables as they hear “Growing Vegetable Soup.”
“The Apple Pie Tree” will be read at the Stuckey Home as children help roll out pie dough, and at the Eicher Cabin, kids can make their own butter.
Young visitors can help build a scarecrow while listening to the book “Six Crows” and hear “Night Animals” at the Garden Shed while meeting animals shared by Nature’s Nursery.
Guests will also enjoy the opportunity to navigate through the always-popular straw maze in the Stuckey Barn and participate in a Harvest Home Service held in the Village Church to celebrate the bounty of the harvest.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to share so many great books and unique farm adventures with children this year during our Fall on the Farm event,” shared Kim Krieger, Media Relations. “We look forward to having families from throughout the region join us to make special memories on the farm.”
Oct. 12 is also Scout Day, with free admission for scouts visiting Sauder Village for this special event. (Scouts must be in uniform, wear a badge sash or present a membership card.)
The celebration recognizes the accomplishments of Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and also American Heritage Girls and Boys.
There are many other fall activities planned at Historic Sauder Village through the end of October, including Community Health Day/Fulton County Appreciation Day on Oct. 19, Fall Family Fun Nights Oct. 18 and 19 (by reservation only), Explore the Crafts on Oct. 26 and the Woodcarver’s Show & Sale on Oct. 26 and 27.
In addition, a new Tree Lighting Ceremony is planned on Nov. 30 and Holiday Lantern Tours will be held on Dec.6 and 7 (by reservation only).
Sauder Village is located at 22611 SR 2 in Archbold. For hours, admission fees and more info, call 1-800-590-9755 or visit www.saudervillage.org.
