After announcing the hiring of Allan Thompson as its new football coach, Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School and Academy received a surprise phone call from Germany.
Kirk Heidelberg, formerly of Toledo and now living and coaching football in Germany, keeps up with Toledo’s news and said he wanted to make a donation to the school’s football program. He had his first teacher observation at Cardinal Stritch and fondly remembered former faculty member and coach Tom “T” Santoro (‘68).
“I am a strong believer in Catholic education and remember that Cardinal Stritch was a strong athletic contender,” Heidelberg said. “I am excited that the program is coming back and wanted to help.”
Upon hearing the news, Coach Allan Thompson (‘11) said, “The fact that he wants to support another coach and program, all the way from Germany, and he doesn’t even know me, is nothing short of amazing.”
