Behind five birdies, Gibsonburg’s Sydney Leyerle medalist

        Gibsonburg golfer Sydney Leyerle shot a two under par 69 at Fremont Country Club to win medalist honors at the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division league meet.
        Leyerle had five birdies, including a string of three in a row on the back where she shot a 33. She had 10 pars and just three bogeys. The successive birdies came on the par five 13th, the par three 14th hole, par five 15th, she bogeyed the par four, and then birdied the par four 17th. She shot a 36 on the front.
        The Golden Bears finished third of eight teams, scoring 376 to place behind Huron (357) and Edison (366).
        For Gibsonburg, Olivia Paul shot 49-47—96, Morgan Albanese scored 49-58—105 and Ellie Stout scored 49-57—106.
        In the boys meet, Kyleigh Dull, a female who golfs for Lakota, won medalist honors, shooting 40-37—77, and leading her team to a championship (339). Gibsonburg placed last of eight teams, scoring 402. Nick Tornow led the Golden Bears, shooting 40-50—90 and Mitchel Delventhal shot 49-46—95.
        In the SBC Lake Division boys meet, Oak Harbor placed third, scoring 371. Brenen Ish shot 40-48—88, Jordan Millinger scored 46-44—90, Colin Ish shot 47-46—93 and Grant Belcher scored 50-50—100. Margaretta (350) won the meet, followed by Port Clinton (352).
        In the SBC Lake Division girls meet, the Rockets shot 410 to place behind Bellevue (363), Clyde (387) and Perkins (406). Hannah Genzman led Oak Harbor, scoring 46-53—97, Trista Chasteen shot 47-56—103, Lauren St. Clair shot 53-51—104 and Maddy Glaser recorded a score of 57-49—106.
        In the Toledo Area Athletic Conference, Northwood golfer Eli O’Connor is second team. In the league meet, Northwood shot 483 to finish fifth, and O’Connor led the team by scoring 42-51—93.
