Tree sale under way
The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District (Lucas SWCD) is accepting orders for the Annual Tree, Shrub and Garden Sale through Friday, March 28.
Orders are being accepted online at lswcd-tree.square.site (credit card only) and at the Lucas SWCD office at 3350 Hill Ave., Suite K, Toledo during regular business hours.
This year’s sale offers several hardwood species in 3-gallon pots including Northern Catalpa, Serviceberry, Black Gum and Eastern Redbud. Also being offered are bare-root seedling packs of flowering shrubs, including Gray Dogwood and Ninebark and three varieties of conifers or evergreens.
Those interested in getting more than one species in a pack may order a Variety Habitat Packet or a Native Prairie Seed Packet, which contains seeds from flowers and grasses collected locally from the Oak Openings Region. New this year is an Apple Tree Bundle, featuring two fan-favorite varieties.
All orders must be picked up at the Lucas County Fairgrounds on either April 15 between 1 and 6 p.m. or April 16 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Delivery is not an option. For more information or to request a copy of the spring 2025 newsletter, call 419-893-1966.
ODNR Job Shadow Day
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) invites high school juniors and seniors interested in a career that involves the great outdoors to apply to the ODNR Job Shadow Program for a chance to be on the job with staff this spring.
This year’s spring job shadow day will be held Friday, May 2.
“We want to inspire future conservationists to continue the vital work we do every day at the Ohio Department of Natural Resources,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. “It is of the utmost importance that we provide insight to the careers that are here at ODNR, whether it’s related to the protection of wildlife and plant habitats, to the conservation of our forests, and beyond; we need to inspire the next generation.”
ODNR will accept applications for the program on the ODNR Job Shadow webpage (ohiodnr.gov/buy-and-apply/support-odnr/jobs/job-shadow-odnr) through Monday, March 31.
Students will be able to explore career opportunities in wildlife, parks, forestry and more.
During the job shadow day, students will gain an understanding of the job requirements and daily tasks. Those who apply will be able to choose the division or office they’d like to learn about, including law enforcement, engineering, forestry, and more. Applicants can read more about ODNR’s divisions at ohiodnr.gov/discover-and-learn/safety-conservation/our-divisions.
