Annual Tree Sale
The Ottawa Soil & Water Conservation District is accepting orders for its Annual Tree Sale.
Order and pay online or download a tree order form by visiting ottawaswcd.com. Those wishing to order may also call 419-898-1595 to have a form mailed to them. The deadline for ordering is March 31, however supplies are limited, so early ordering is encouraged.
Evergreen varieties are sold in packets of 10 and include Colorado blue spruce, and Norway spruce. This year, the district will again offer the fast-growing Green Rocket Cedar that will be sold individually. These cedars will grow up to 3 feet per year, are deer resistant, have a strong root system, and no major insect problems. They make an effective windbreak or privacy screen.
The following varieties are also offered: shellbark hickory, bald cypress, black gum, tulip poplar, sycamore, bur oak, Skyrise, red oak, white oak, black cherry and red maple.
Back by popular demand are the Wildlife Tree Pack, Pollinator Tree Pack, and a Nut Tree Pack which include five different types of native trees.
Prices range from $10 to $35. Money raised from the program goes to support district education programs throughout the year.
Ag Breakfast
The Ottawa SWCD Ag Breakfast will be held March 17 at 8 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor.
Donald Kaatz, president of the Toussaint Shooting Club, will be the guest speaker.

Fruit tree pruning clinic
Ohio State University Extension will offer a Fruit Tree Pruning Clinic Saturday, March 18 from 9 a.m.-noon at Haslinger Orchards, 7404 US Route 6, Gibsonburg.
There is no charge for the class, however reservations are required. Class is limited to the first 40 registrations. For registration information contact Craig Everett at the OSU Wood County Extension office at 419-819-3071.
Haslinger Orchards is a family-owned orchard and farm spanning five generations. The farm specializes in fruits such as peaches, nectarines, apples, pears and plums and also carries many vegetables as well as other items like homemade jams, apple cider and more.
