After winning district, Jurski competes at state meet

Clay sophomore Joslyn Jurski won a Division I district championship, qualifying for the state meet in the 200 yard freestyle. The state meet was held Feb. 19-22 at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.
        At the district meet at Bowling Green State University, she set a new school record in the 200 freestyle of 1:54.87. Jurski beat out Rocky River senior Morgan Schuld by a split second (1:55.13).
        Jurski also placed third in the 500 yard freestyle with a school record time of 5:09.47.
        As a team, the Clay girls scored 36 points and finished 17th out of 25 teams scoring. The boys team scored 14 points and finished 20th.
        Meanwhile, Clay junior Abram Hagedorn arrived at the district meet handicapped with health issues, but still managed to set a school record in the 100 backstroke, placing seventh with a time of 54.03. Hagedorn also placed 17th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56 seconds, but neither time qualified him for state.
        Clay senior Reuben Hagedorn set a school record in the 100 freestyle, placing 19th with a time of 49.51 and placed 15th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.25.
        For Oak Harbor, junior Elayna Krupp qualified in the 50 freestyle (24.32) and the 100 butterfly (59.68).
        In the D-II girls state meet, Oak Harbor sent its 200 medley relay (1:51.1) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.04). Krupp, Erin Druyor, Emily Haar, and Amelia Mizelle swam for both relay teams at districts and at state.
        In the D-II boys meet, Oak Harbor sent three relay teams, including its 200 medley relay (1:41.13), the 200 freestyle relay (1;28.75), and the 400 freestyle relay (3:19.06). Oak Harbor junior Troy Metcalf qualified in the 50 freestyle (22.22).
        For the medley relay team, qualifiers at district were Metcalf, Karter Lajti, Thomas Chovanec and Caleb Heintz but at state it was Lajti, Chovanec, Griffin Heintz and Karson Lajti. For the 200 freestyle team, qualifiers were Chovanec, Eli Sherman, Kobe Fletcher and Caleb Heintz, but at state it was Chovanec, Fletcher, Caleb Heintz and Metcalf. For the 400 freestyle team qualifiers were Metcalf, Griffin Heintz, Caleb Heintz and Chovanec but at state the combination used by coach Andrea Sorg was Chovanec, Sherman, Caleb Heintz and Metcalf.
        In addition, Eastwood sophomore Calvin Price qualified as in individual in the D-II 500 freestyle (4:58.46).
