The winless Brooklyn Hurricanes made the trip from suburban Cleveland to Ottawa County last Saturday, and the Genoa football team did not do them any favors.

As a freshman at the Division I state tournament, Curtice resident and St. Ursula golfer Payton Donnell was part of an Arrows’ team that finished 10th out of 12 teams at the state meet.

Oak harbor junior volleyball player Regan Schultz broke the school record for aces as the Rockets volleyball team beat Willard 22-25, 25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 15-12. Schultz now has 124 career aces. The record was previously held by Olivia Rahm with 122.

Not only did Clay tennis players Kenzie Arquette and Kinsley Jahns advance to the Division I district tournament, they both won every sectional match and would have matched up against each other for a sectional singles championship.

Three senior golfers, Woodmore’s Danny Greenhill, Genoa’s Tommy Giles and Gibsonburg’s Sydney Leyerle, were medalists at their respective sectional golf tournaments.

In a shortened six-week season, long time area wrestling coach Joe Szyperski defended his soothsayer championship, finishing 50-12 (80.6 percent) in choosing the winners of high school and professional football games.
