There are a lot of challenges and stresses in this job. (Like deadlines, deadlines, deadlines). But there are many benefits too.
Just this week, I got a chance to interview Santa Claus, thanks to Tim Stapleton of Oregon, who has been Santa’s loyal local helper for an impressive 50 years now.
Though he wouldn’t divulge any of the big guy’s big secrets — like how you get reindeer to fly —he did offer some insight on how to maximize your chances of having Santa leave a little something extra special under the tree this holiday.

Julie Muffler, who has been director of the Challenger Center of Lucas County in Oregon since the 2003 opening of the space education facility, is launching into a new frontier herself.
Muffler is resigning Dec. 23 to take a position as the deputy director of NASA’s education specialist program at Penn State University’s Aerospace, Education, Services Project (AESP) in University Park, PA. Penn State has a cooperative agreement with NASA to administer the education specialist program.

TOLEDO – With Dec. 31 and the year’s end just days away, many people are scrambling to find ways to lower their 2008 tax bills.
Daniel Jones, a senior tax advisor with H&R Block, offers seven steps taxpayers can still take to reduce their 2008 tax burden.
1. Review withholding allowances. Most employees will receive two more paychecks this calendar year. By reviewing their W-4s, they can determine if they’re withholding enough. If not, there’s still time to adjust and minimize their potential tax liability. H&R Block offers a free online withholding calculator to help taxpayers determine the right number of allowances to claim on their W-4s.
