Wayne N. Fondessy

Wayne N. Fondessy, 79, of Genoa, Ohio a tall, strong and caring man, passed away Friday, April 23, 2021 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo.   He was born on a farm in Curtice, Ohio to Nelson A. and Helen A. (Diefenthaler) Fondessy.  He was a 1959 graduate of Genoa High School where he met his sweetheart, Dorothy M. (Burke), whom he married on April 28, 1961 at St. John Lutheran Church in Williston, Ohio.

Wayne was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the early 1960’s.  His tour of duty included Travis AFB, Oklahoma and the Okinawa Islands.  After he was discharged from the service he attended and graduated in 1968, from Owens Community College, majoring in data processing & computer programing.  He was a member of the very first graduating class from Owens, then known as Penta Technical Institute.

Wayne was a trainer for First Energy Corp. at Davis Bessie Nuclear Power Station, in Oak Harbor, until his retirement in 1998.  He had also worked for the Chrysler Machining plant, Perrysburg, Rockwell International, Valparaiso, IN, Houghton Elevator Co. and Dohler-Jarvis INL Industries, both of Toledo.  His true passion was farming, so he started in the 1970’s and continued for the rest of his life.  He was a past president and member of the Ottawa County Farm Bureau.  Dorothy and he also enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Arizona & Florida.

Services for Wayne will be private.  His family suggests memorials donations be directed to the Special Care Unit of Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 800 S. Detroit Ave., Toledo, Ohio 43609.  Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.  The Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory of Genoa, Ohio has been entrusted with arrangements.
