The Lake Township trustees Tuesday approved renewing employee health insurance for 2020 that will include a 17 percent cost increase.
After hearing a presentation from Don Douglas, of Savage and Associates, who told the trustees the current carrier, Medical Mutual, was pushing for a 25 percent increase but he was able to negotiate the smaller increase, the trustees agreed to the renewal.
Vicki Schwamberger, township fiscal officer, said the new policy goes into effect Jan. 1, 2020 and will increase the township’s monthly premiums to $41,664 from $35,500.
The trustees also renewed the township policy with Guardian for dental and vision insurance.
In other business, the trustees heard a request from a resident, Rich Henzler, who asked that a sign be posted along State Rt. 795 recognizing the men and women from the township who’ve served in the armed forces.
Henzler said there are more than 2,000 veterans buried at Lake Township Cemetery and the names of many veterans are listed on a wall at Lake High School.
“What better way to recognize them?” he said.
Mark Hummer, township administrator, said the Ohio Department of Transportation determines what signage can be posted along a state route.
He suggested contacting State Representative Haraz Ghanbari, who served in the Army National Guard, to start the process for a sign.

Wreath funding
To date, more than $10,000 has been raised to purchase wreaths for veterans’ graves at the cemetery, Jeff Pettit, a trustee, said.
The figure includes a $1,500 donation from the township and proceeds from a fundraiser held this summer, he said.
Pettit for four years has been leading an annual drive to purchase wreaths through the Wreaths Across America organization.
The year, the organization will hold its national wreath-laying program on Dec. 14.
The deadline to order wreaths is Nov. 29. Wreaths can be ordered for specific grave sites or for general use.
