The Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) is offering visitors more opportunities to visit its current exhibition, “Yayoi Kusama: Fireflies on the Water.” The popular, immersive installation, which was originally scheduled to close at the end of April, will now remain on view through the end of June.
For a special two-week period from March 2-March 15, visitors will be invited to purchase timed tickets for all remaining dates through the June 28 closing. After the two-week open ticketing period, the Museum will again make weekly tickets available beginning Mondays at 10 a.m. Limited tickets will be available for all dates.
“The immense popularity of Fireflies on the Water has exceeded our expectations,” said John Stanley, the Museum’s interim director. “We want to thank the community for their support of TMA by providing more time to experience this icon of contemporary visual art.”
“Yayoi Kusama: Fireflies on the Water” showcases the unique vision of one of the world’s most influential contemporary artists. Kusama, who experienced hallucinations as a child, uses her artwork as a means to express and communicate her particular psychological world. Visitors experience up to 60 seconds alone in the room, which uses lights, mirrors and water to transport viewers to a space that seems endlessly expansive.
TMA members receive a fixed number of free tickets based on their membership level. Once members have reserved their free tickets, they are eligible to purchase as many as six additional general admission tickets in the same transaction. Both members and nonmembers can purchase up to six general admission tickets per transaction. General admission tickets are $5.
‘Yayoi Kusama: Fireflies on the Water’ is made possible by a loan from the Whitney Museum of Art. The exhibition is presented by ProMedica with additional support from Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP and the Ohio Arts Council.
