Robert F. & Norma L. Carsten

Robert F. Carsten of Millbury, Ohio passed away in his sleep April 16, 2021. He was 94. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma L. (Sherer) Carsten who passed away five months earlier, November 4, 2020. She was 89. She was the Love of his life and she adored him. They were together 72 years. They had resided happily in Millbury surrounded by great friends and neighbors for 32 years.

He worked and retired from Gulf Oil Refinery with 32 years of service. Prior to that he had been a Great Lakes merchant marine, served in WWII in the Navy as a boatswain mate 2nd class. He was a true “Jack of all trades, and a Master of none.” There was little he couldn’t do once he put his mind to it. If he didn’t have a tool, he would make one. His word was his bond, his handshake, his guarantee.

They are survived by their son John (Connie) Carsten of Walbridge, grandchildren Nick (Brittney) Carsten of Graytown, Jake (Danielle Dobrzeniecki) Carsten of Bowling Green, great-grandchildren Max and Tyson Carsten, Larry Sherer (Brother-in-law) and many nieces and nephews. They were preceded in death by both their sons, Barry L. (1970) and Timothy M.(2015).

It should be noted that they could not have resided in their home the last ten years without the extraordinary help of special friends in their lives. Notably; Beverly (Pete) Peters, Jeff (Sue) Hineline, their niece Jackie (Jim) Rice, and their church’s congregation and Pastor at Calvary Lutheran church in Northwood and at the end, the loving care and compassion shown on them both by Ohio Living Hospice both at their home and while both resided at The Landings in Oregon, Ohio.

Please remit any and all contributions to American Cancer Society, The Alzheimer’sAssociation, or the hospice or church of your choosing.
