Reigning Northern Buckeye Conference Player of the Year Danny Greenhill returns for his junior year to lead the Woodmore boys golf team.
Greenhill, a first team All-NBC selection, was third individually at the Division III sectional to qualify for district and tied for 18th individually at district.
Greenhill, who already has lettered twice, won two tournaments last year, the Lakeland Invite and the NBC Championships, shooting a 5-over-par 76 Green Hills in Clyde. He also won one of the NBC shootouts last year, and had to overcome a foot injury to do so.
Greenhill also was second in two tournaments, the Wildcat Invite and Tiger Invite. He was second team All-District as voted on by the Ohio High School Golf Coaches Association, had a 39 nine-hole scoring average for the four NBC shootouts and the NBC meet.
This summer in the Toledo Junior Golf Association, Greenhill finished sixth out of 68 golfers with a scoring average of 78.89 and 1,534.25 points. Greenhill and University of Toledo golfer Palmer Yenrick (Clay) tied for the championship in the Eastern Landing Junior, both shooting a 71 to finish one under par.
Third-year Woodmore coach Rodger Jimison has called Greenhill “a special player.”
Greenhill is one of six returning letter winners for Jimison, whose team was third in the NBC and fifth in the D-III sectional last year. Jimison is assisted by fourth-year coach Kevin Ball.
Joining Greenhill is sophomore Aaron Miller, who was an honorable mention All-NBC selection last year who averaged 46.6 per nine in league competition.
Other top returning letter winners are juniors Ian Jacobson and Zane Lopez and sophomores Landon Emch and Duane Perkins. Jacobson and Lopez also lettered both their freshman and sophomore years. Jimison says a key newcomer to the team will be senior Andrew Barringer.
In a dual meet with Oak Harbor last week, the Wildcats prevailed 172-179. Greenhill shot a 40 with two birdies, Jacobson and Miller both shot 42, Emch scored 48, Perkins had a 52 and Devin McNair scored 55 for the Wildcats. Jacobson and Miller also had one birdie each.
For the Rockets, Colin Ish scored 42, Jordan Millinger had a 43, Brent Belcher and Ryan Friar both scored 47, Brenen Ish scored 48 and Karter Lajti had a 58. Brenen Ish had the Rockets’ only birdie. (— Press Sports Editor J. Patrick Eaken)
