Penta Career Center officially unveiled the recently completed $2 million solar array. The solar array at Penta is the first of its kind constructed at a career-technical school in Ohio. Enerlogics and GEM Energy are co-developers of the project. The fix-tilt, ground-mount array is located on six acres and is visible from I-75. First Solar provided 3,168 of their newest generation 415 and 420 watt Series 6 solar panels that were manufactured at its facility in Lake Township. The project is expected to provide nearly 60% of the electricity needs for Penta and will produce 1.76 million kilowatt hours of power. Pictured, Kyle Kreft, solar manager for GEM Energy, discusses the project with Josh Chonko, of Swanton, and Devin Thompson, of Oak Harbor. The two are students in Penta’s Construction/Electricity program. (Press photo by Ken Grosjean)
