Gavarone honored as Legislator of the Year
State Sen. Theresa Gavarone (R-Bowling Green) was named the Legislator of the Year by the Ohio Association of Election Officials.
“I’m grateful to Ohio’s election officials for choosing me to receive this award. Elections are a critical part of government as they provide voters with the right to have a say in who represents them and to hold these individuals accountable,” said Gavarone.
Gavarone accepted the award at OAEO's annual conference in Columbus Jan. 16.
The award is given annually to one Republican and one Democrat who have demonstrated a high interest in election policy, have had significant influence on elections legislation, and have worked closely with local election officials to craft meaningful election reforms.
“As an elected official, I am passionate about upholding the integrity of our elections so that Ohioans continue to have a fair and honest democratic process," Gavarone added.

Art classes popular
For two years, David Overholt, a Walbridge resident, has been offering free art classes on Thursdays from noon to 3 p.m. at the Lake Township administration building.
The classes have become very popular, he said, and he will start offering children’s classes in the Village of Woodville in February.
He’s also looking for building space in the area to offer night classes to adults.
Last October, he presented paintings to 10 area fire departments to thank them for their service and commemorate Fire Prevention Month.
He said last week a fire department in the State of Washington contacted him after seeing his work on Facebook and he’s completed a painting that the department presented to a member who was retiring.
Except for minute details such as numbers or other small features, Overholt uses his fingers to apply the paint instead of brushes.
“I was never taught how to paint with brushes,” he said. “I blend and mix the colors with a brush but apply the paint with my fingers,”
