Notre Dame Academy’s Rowing Team Junior Varsity 8 boat placed third in the nation, bringing home a bronze medal in the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National Championship Regatta held on Dillon Lake in Nashport, Ohio, over Memorial Day weekend.
On the team are Oregon residents Katelyn Garza and Sydney Vargas and Perrysburg resident Ava Bockbrader.
Notre Dame Academy was the only school from Northwest Ohio that earned a spot to compete in this national competition. The NDA JV8 is now the fastest boat in the Midwest.
Leading the crew was Garza at coxswain, followed by Valeria Ponce, Abby Firsdon, Mady Niles, Bockbrader, Jade Spidel, Lily Bunker, Vargas, and Molly Kolodzaike,  Also deserving recognition are alternates Caitlin Kidwell, Cori Kemper, and Kalina Conley, “whose support and readiness to jump in helped excel the crew to an outstanding placement,” states an NDA press release.
NDA will hold a rowing camp on the Maumee River July 30-August 2. Registration for the camp is at nda.org/summeracademy.
