Funding for a riverwalk project in the Village of Oak Harbor has been included in the state capital improvement budget.
Mayor Quinton Babcock said the village and the Oak Harbor Development Group have been informed that $500,000 has been allocated for the project.
“This will go a long way towards making our vision a reality,” the mayor said.
Preliminary cost estimates for the project are in the $2 million range, he said.
Last year, village officials garnered support for state funding by asking residents, businesses, civic groups and others to write letters to state legislators.
The waterfront project tops a list of proposed improvements in the village that are included in the development group’s community master plan, which has been endorsed by officials of the village and Benton-Carroll-Salem School District.
Planners have envisioned an ADA-accessible walkway along the river, an amphitheater, shelter house and floating docks.
