Navigators offer free help for Medicaid, Marketplace enrollment

Press Staff Writer

With various changes to Ohio Medicaid and the federal Health Insurance Marketplace under way, Toledo/Lucas County CareNet has licensed and certified navigators who can provide free help to residents of 21 Northwest Ohio counties as they explore their health coverage options.
CareNet navigators can help residents recertify their Medicaid coverage, select a Medicaid managed care plan, and assist with Marketplace special enrollment periods.
For the first time since the pandemic started in 2020, Ohio Medicaid recipients will need to recertify coverage by updating their contact information to ensure they receive notices and don’t lose coverage.
Ohio Medicaid also has new managed care plan options that can be selected now.
CareNet can assist those who no longer qualify for Medicaid with Marketplace enrollment, as well as anyone who qualifies for a special enrollment period because they lost employer-sponsored coverage, got married or divorced, or have experienced other changes.
Additionally, there now is continuous Marketplace special enrollment period for people living at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, or $41,625 a year for a family of four in 2022.
“This can be a very confusing time for Ohioans who are Medicaid beneficiaries or who are weighing their health coverage options,” said Julie Grasson, executive director of Toledo/Lucas County CareNet. “CareNet is here to answer questions about Medicaid or Marketplace enrollment and provide free assistance to residents throughout Northwest Ohio.”
CareNet has navigators who speak English, Spanish and Arabic. They can provide free assistance in-person, on the phone or via a virtual meeting.
CareNet is a member of the Ohio Association of Foodbanks’ navigator consortium, which serves 77 of Ohio’s 88 counties. Northwest Ohioans can schedule an appointment with a navigator by calling 1-833-628-4467 or visiting
