Maria Luisa "Mary Lou" Cardona

Maria Luisa “Mary Lou” Cardona, age 72, of Genoa, Ohio passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 1, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Prior to living in Genoa, she was also a long time resident of Woodville, Ohio. She was born on June 13, 1948 in Toledo, Ohio at the Riverside Hospital.

Mary Lou had a strong work ethic and was a dedicated employee of The Holiday Inn French Quarter for over 50 years. During her time there, she wore may hats before she retired “closing the place down” in 2019 with the title of the Pantry/Salad Bar Supervisor. She enjoyed working, reading and was a very active member of her church community at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Genoa, Ohio. She volunteered her time to a number of church organizations, such as the Guadalupe Society, Grotto Society, Altar Rosary Society and she was also a Crusiesta.

Her heart was most full when she was among her family and loved ones. Mary had a big heart and was a mother-like figure to many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins, just to name a few. She was known for her “tell it like it is” feisty, quick witted personality. She will be missed by many and forever remain in our hearts.

Mary is survived by her loving sister, Rufina Moreno Becerra (Leonard); Nieces, Elizabeth Becerra Mottmiller, Jessica Becerra (Aleena); Nephews, David Becerra (Katrina) and Daniel Becerra (Deanna) along with many great nieces and great nephews. Mary Lou will remain in our hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Leonor Moreno, her great grandmother Maria DeJesus Moreno and most recently, nephew-in-law, Michael V. Mottmiller.

The visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 4p-8pm at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home. Family and Friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services at 11am on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 to be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 204 Main Street, Genoa, Ohio 43430.

Interment will follow mass at the Clay Township Cemetery. Following the burial will be a Celebration of Life Luncheon at the Genoa American Legion Hall, 302 West Street, Genoa, Ohio 43430.
