A 71-year-old man who traveled to Europe and returned in February is the first coronavirus case in Toledo/Lucas County, health commissioner Eric Zgodzinski announced at a press conference Sunday morning.
The man was tested at a hospital, is currently in the hospital in stable condition, and has had limited contact with others. The hospital not being named.
Health officials are in contact with individual and his significant other to see with whom they have been in contact. This is believed to be a travel infection case not a community spread, though officials emphasized they expect more cases.
Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, also on hand at the press conference, said people should avoid gatherings and maintain social distancing to help prevent spread. Regarding the upcoming Primary Elections, he said people should still plan to vote, either early voting or go out on Election Day and follow safety concerns about safe distancing, using hand sanitizer and following other safety precautions.
