Lourdes women’s wrestling joins Mid-South Conference

Mid-South Conference Commissioner Eric Ward announced has announced that Lourdes University will join the conference as an affiliate member for women’s wrestling beginning in the 2020-2021 academic year.
The Mid-South Conference Council of Presidents unanimously approved the institution for affiliate membership at their March meeting.
“We are thrilled and excited to be able to join the Mid-South Conference as we begin our women’s wrestling program at Lourdes University,” athletics director Janet Eaton said. “The caliber of wrestling within the conference is something we aspire to obtain, and we will do our very best to represent the conference to the best of our ability. We look forward to beginning competition in the Mid-South Conference this upcoming winter.”
The Gray Wolves announced the start of their program, as well as named Kate Hill as its first coach, on January 14.
“Becoming a member of the Mid-South conference was the best choice for us not only because of travel distance, but also because of skill level,” Hill stated.  “The MSC has a variety of top-ranked teams, including the returning WCWA national champions.  I am excited for our student-athletes to have the opportunity to compete against high-level athletes every week to sharpen their skills for the NAIA National Invitational in March.”
Lourdes joins Indiana Tech as a new conference member for the upcoming women’s wrestling season.  They will join Brewton-Parker College, Campbellsville University, University of the Cumberlands (Ky.), and Life University which competed in the Mid-South Conference this past season.  The MSC was the first NAIA conference to sponsor women’s wrestling in 2017, while the NAIA became the first collegiate association to sponsor women’s wrestling during the 2018-2019 season with invitational status.
