Louis R. "Gramps" Agoston Sr.

Louis R. “Gramps” Agoston Sr of Toledo, Ohio, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Majestic Care Center, surrounded by his loving family. Louis was born to Joseph and Rose (Nagy) Agoston on August 30, 1930, in Birmingham neighborhood, Toledo, Ohio, and where he grew up in the 1930’s and 40’s. “Isten Aldd Meg A Maguart”. In the spring of 1948, he played short stop on the Hart Motors fast pitch softball. They won 18 straight games to take the City Class B Title. He was a Macomber High School graduate. Louis served 4 years in the United States Navy. In Novemeber of 1952 he married Madelon Henry who preceded him in death in 2002. He had worked for Toledo Edison for 37 years retiring in 1990 working at the Acme and Bayshore Plants as a boiler operator.

In his younger years he enjoyed small game hunting with his brothers in law.  Later, he enjoyed golfing with his son and sons in law. Louis was a family man who loved taking his family swimming as East Harbor, picnicking at Meig and Side Cut Metro Parks along with hiking at Oak Openings. He also enjoyed camping with his family up in Michigan, Mt Rushmore and the Yellowstone National Park. Other adventures were canoeing on the Rifle River, South Branch of the Au-sable and Manistee River.  Louis and Madelon had visited all the National Parks and monuments as well as traveling on the Al-Can Highway in Alaska. If not at the national parks him and his wife were taking mini vacations to Toronto, New Orleans, Nashville and Branson.

Surviving are his children Rose (Bernard) Wineland, Denise Harvey, Louis (Beverly) Agoston Jr., Cynthia (Ronal) Lee; grandchildren, Philip (Mary) Wineland, Kate (Rich) McGowan, Sarah (Jeremy) Ford, Deanna (Matt) Dower, Stephen (Kateie) Harvey, Joseph (Andrea) Harvey, Eric (Kelly) Agoston, Stephanie (Phil) Heuker, Allison (Matt) Hajet, Cheryl Thompson, Lisa (Alex) Tipping, Becca (Ryan Lenz) Lee and 21 great grandchildren. Louis was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Madelon, son-in-law, Danny Harvey; siblings, Joseph, Charles, Matilda, Rose, Mary, Dorothy and very close friends, Munice Rogers and Shirley Baker.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, from 2-8 pm at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440 S. Coy Road, Oregon. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at Epiphany of the Lord St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, 729 White Street, Toledo, Ohio at 11:00 AM, where the family will greet friends beginning at 10AM. Interment will follow at Lake Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Aquinas Parish or to St. Louis Helping Hands Kitchen.
