To the editor: The Las Vegas Raiders now have the National Football League’s first black female team president, Sandra Douglass Morgan.
Meanwhile, the lawsuit filed by former Raiders Coach Jon Gruden against the NFL remains to be litigated. Additionally, the lawsuit alleging discrimination by former Miami Dolphins coach Brian Flores will not be handled by an arbitrator. Thus, precluding the NFL being able to keep the witnesses’ testimony from being reported by the press to NFL fans.
In, my opinion, former President Trump’s recent comment about Brittney Griner, the Women National Basketball Association star who is jailed in Russia, was uncalled for. Particularly, in light of the 24 lawsuits for sexual misconduct against former Houston Texan quarterback Deshaun Watson – now with the Cleveland Browns. Especially, as Watson has now been suspended for six games for his acts of sexual conduct at massage therapy sessions. Moreover, it was reported by the New York Times t the Texans ‘obtained hotel rooms at times’ and had a staff member get Watson non-disclosure agreement forms.
Unfortunately, with this scenario - what’s done in Texas, didn’t stay in Texas. It seems neither the Cleveland Browns management nor NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell were cognizant of this legal reality.
What I find profoundly interesting that Mr. Trump didn’t notice is that Deshaun Watson is a black quarterback, just like Trump’s favorite other black quarterback – Colin Kapernick. Yes, the same Nike spokeperson Colin Kaepernick with whom the NFL owners settled a lawsuit out-of-court in February 2019.
I remind readers that the aforementioned settlement transpired as the NFL owners came to the realization they were being portrayed as corporate practitioners of Economic Apartheid…the use of capitalism, colonialism, racism and socialism to exploit the poor be they black, brown, or white to preserve white supremacy.
