Lake health students get lesson on meal planning
Students in Lake High School teacher Jamie Schoen’s health class recently got hands-on experience in meal planning.
Food Services Director Chris Wilson spoke to the students about government requirements for meals for grades 9-12. Students were then challenged to bring in a recipe they would like to see served in the cafeteria. Divided into groups, they voted on a recipe to serve. Each group researched ingredients to ensure they fit within the requirements. Schoen then collected their list of foods and nutritional info and sent it to Wilson for approval.
Once approved, the students were assigned a date to prepare and serve their meal. As part of the project, they had to create a survey and distribute it to students who ate the meal. They also have to market their meal. The group which sells the most meals, wins a cookie from the cafeteria.
