Eunice M. Chambers

Eunice M. Chambers, 96, a lifelong resident of Genoa, Ohio, died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family, on January 14, 2022. She was born in Martin, Ohio on October 15, 1925, the daughter of Carl and Luella (Angel) Haar and graduated from Genoa High School in 1942. After school she went to work during WWII to help the war effort, while the men went overseas. After the war she met the love of her life, Gerald “Jerry” H. Chambers. They were married in Genoa, Ohio on August 7, 1948, and spent the next 50 years together raising their family, until Jerry’s death on January 3, 1999.
Eunice was a devoted and active mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved attending her family’s activities, including concerts, sporting events, plays and any other events. She was a life-long member of the Genoa American Legion Post 324 Auxiliary, serving as president a number of times along with other offices. She will always be remembered as a charter member of the Genoa Homecoming, working in the food and bingo tents. Eunice also enjoyed dancing and in her younger years attended dances at the former Maple Grove in Port Clinton and Forrest Park in Genoa. She had also worked for the former Dairy Dip in Genoa, which was owned by her father-in-law. Eunice was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Genoa.
Eunice is survived by her daughters, Gail (Kent) Whitman, Wendy Chambers, Denise (Scott) Schimming and Gwen (Scott) Ellithorpe, twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, with a 19th on the way, and her sister, Bonnie Weidner. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sons, James & Mark, daughter, Lori Strauss, great grandson, Cooper Sohonage, brother, Earl Haar, and sisters, Jeanette Hille and Karan Satkowski.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1213 Washington Street, Genoa. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, from 3:00-7:00 PM, in the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, Ohio, and from 10:00-11:00 AM at church, prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at the Clay Township Cemetery, Genoa. The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the American Legion Post #324, Genoa or to St. John’s United Church of Christ.
