Residents and businesses in the Village of Elmore are receiving their water from the Ottawa County Regional Water System.
Water from the county began flowing into the village on Wednesday at around 8 a.m., said Dave Hower, village administrator.
“We didn’t’ have any hiccups. We were finished by two o’clock,” he said. “We put it in the towers and then disbursed it. I didn’t hear of any concerns about discoloration of the water. I was monitoring social media all day and I didn’t have any telephone calls from anybody having concerns with it. We didn’t lose any pressure. We had the valves set so we could keep the same water pressure that we had and we didn’t spring any leaks and we didn’t have any problems. It went very well.”
The county system draws water from Lake Erie. The village had been on a municipal groundwater well system.
Elmore village officials had been awaiting word from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency as to when the village could start receiving water from the Ottawa County system.
Hower said the village submitted a report of the testing it completed to the Ohio EPA in late June.
Under the $4.4 million Ottawa County project, approximately 4.4 miles of 12-inch waterline were installed from the Harris Township water tower to the village. Construction started last December.
The village well system included four wells with a capacity of 302,000 gallons per day.
Two storage towers have a capacity of 350,000 gallons.
The village had been working with Kleinfelder Engineering on conducting tests for the system.
The county sanitary engineering department is responsible for the operation of a 9-million-gallon per day regional water treatment plant, three 500,000-gallon elevated water storage towers, and more than 182 miles of water transmission and distribution mains serving the City of Port Clinton, the Village of Oak Harbor and portions of seven townships, including Danbury, Catawba Island, Portage, Erie, Bay, Salem and Harris.
