Betty Jane Henson

Our treasured mom, Betty Jane Henson, completed her earthly journey on 16 January 2023 at Haven Hospice, Orange Park Florida, following health complications.

Betty was born 29 March 1926, to the late Joseph Peck and Nora (Black) Chapman. She married Charles A. Henson in Russell (Gallup), KY on 1 September 1949 and was happily married for over 50 years until his death on 15 February 2000.

Betty retired from Goodyear in Luckey, Ohio as one of their most valued quality assurance inspectors and traveled, with her loving husband and our dad, throughout the country, including Hawaii, to visit family and friends after retirement. She was very active in church throughout her long life where she helped in the nursery, assisted with various church events and was always there to serve the Lord in any capacity. Her favorite color was lavender, and she just loved Ice cream cones or most anything sweet. She was a great baker and cook and loved finding new recipes to try. We now have a cherished collection of all her old cookbooks and the quilts her and her sister, Dorothy, made. We are truly blessed to have such treasures for us to enjoy and remember her by. She was a loving mom personified. She doted on her family and was the BEST MOM anyone could ever wish for and will be sorely missed beyond words.

Mourning her loss and celebrating her life are her two sons and their spouses: Larry (Nicky) Chapman (Wilma Jean), Charles A. Henson Jr. (Vicki): two daughters and their spouses: Sandra K. Romano (Gary), Lynda L. Phinney, her devoted long-term caregiver for over 20 years (Michael), her five grandchildren plus 2 bonus grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving and devoted husband; grandson, (Ricky Chapman), four brothers: James “Jay” Chapman, Sherman Chapman, Virgil Chapman and Chester Paul Chapman, four sisters: Mary Frances Chapman, Letta May Hall,  Dorothy M. Burnette and Thelma “Pauline” Lycan. She was the next to the youngest sibling and the last to survive her parents and all her brothers and sisters, who all once resided at the old homestead in Chapman, Kentucky. The Chapman family are all together once again, but this time in Heaven.

Visitation will be held at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home in Walbridge, Ohio on Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Graveside Burial Blessings, conducted by Pastor David McGregor, Athens Missionary Baptist Church, will follow at Lake Township Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest alongside her loving husband.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church of Chapman; 282 Eloise Church Road, Louisa KY 41230 and/or to                                         Haven – Custead Hospice Care Center; 745 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, Florida 32065.
