Alice F. Wax

Alice F. Wax, 81, of Oak Harbor, Ohio, passed away March 11, 2023, at Elmwood of Fremont, after a long illness. Alice was born in Hodge, Louisiana, on March 5, 1942, the daughter of Emory C. and Johnnie F. (Boyett) Redding and lived there until she met the love of her life, Paul (Bob) R. Wax. They married in Alexandria, LA on February 29, 1964, just prior to Bob’s deployment to Vietnam.
Alice and Bob started their life together in the Elmore area where she worked as the librarian, along with her close friend, Jane Nowak, at the grade school. They later moved to Elizabeth, CO, where Alice worked as a secretary for a cattle ranch. A short time later the family moved back to the Oak Harbor area and made it their permanent home.
Alice taught GED evening courses at the local High School and pursued her associate degree in Advocacy and Counseling from Terra Technical College. She enjoyed journalism, and started to write a weekly column for the Port Clinton News Herald about events and happenings in Ottawa County and the surrounding area. She kept busy working as a booking officer for the Lucas County Court System and for Dr. Keith Norwalk, DDS, of Genoa, until her retirement.
Alice had many hobbies and interests, including, cooking delicious meals, many reflecting her Southern heritage, sewing, playing any type of card game, fishing, and dancing to whatever music was playing! She was a self-taught piano player and member of Bethel United Brethren Church in Elmore. Alice will be remembered by her family, friends and acquaintances for her outgoing and dynamic personality.
Alice is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bob, sons, Todd (Sue) Wax, Mark (Julie) Wax, daughter, Joy (Kevin) Bachar, grandchildren, Andrew Wax, Katie (Greg) Harlow, Jacob Thornton, Jared (Morgan)Thornton, Connor Wax, Megan Wax, Lily Bachar, and Olivia Bachar, great-grandchildren, John and Sophia Harlow, and her faithful companion, “Dottie”. Her parents, and sisters, Crysta Tritle and Joy Jakubiak preceded her in death.
Friends and family are encouraged to come celebrate Alice’s life from 4:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 501 West St., Genoa, Ohio. Those wishing to donate in her memory are asked to consider St. Jude Children’s Research Hospitals or the Stein Hospice of Sandusky, Ohio.
