On Tuesday evening, Oct. 13, AARP Ohio brought together Ohio's Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and global funk superstar Bootsy Collins, Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose, Ohio First Lady Fran DeWine and Ohio NAACP President Tom Roberts to inform voters age 50+ about options to vote safely in the 2020 Election.
“We want to make sure the voice of voters 50+ is heard in this election” said Collins. “We want to make sure that they raise their voice and know the power of their vote.”
The free event mixed exclusive musical performances from Collins, including the debut of his new “Together We Can” song and music video, with voter resources and discussion about the top issues at stake for voters 50+ in this election.
Hosted by the Progressive Field Voice of the Cleveland Indians Bob Tayek and streamed live via the AARP Facebook Page, the event is now available for replay on the AARP Ohio Facebook page, www.facebook.com/AARPOH.
AARP Ohio State Director Holly Holtzens said, “AARP wants to ensure Ohioans know all the options they have to exercise their vote safely and they have information on where the candidates stand on key issues impacting their health and financial security.”
The event is part of the AARP comprehensive voter engagement campaign, “Protect Voters 50+,” launched in August to support and protect Americans 50 and older as they vote in November. The nationwide campaign will provide people with the information they need about this year’s elections, including state-by-state voter guides, issue briefings, direct mail, text messaging, social media and paid media.
AARP has a 34-year history of non-partisan voter engagement and does not endorse or oppose candidates, nor does AARP make contributions to political campaigns or candidates. AARP encourages all Ohioans to ask questions, so they understand where the candidates stand on important issues and make their own decisions this fall.
